Happy Birthday to Me.

I got an ice cream maker for my birthday on Friday.  For my maiden churn I wanted to make beet ice-cream so on Saturday morning we all walked over to the farmers market and got three lovely bunches of beets.  When we got home I roasted them and made it into a custard (added egg yokes in a double boiler) and got them chilling in the fridge before lunch but when I put the mixture in the new ice cream maker Saturday night it just wasn't cold enough.  Do over.  I re-froze the mixture and container and finally got it to work today (Monday).  What I have learned: the ingredients need to be frozen before they can be turned into ice cream.  Isn't that what the machine is supposed to do?
It's a little bit messy, but such a pretty color.
